Victoria I is an artist and a long-time political activist, having worked in New York City with the Youth Action Program, Women for Racial and Economic
Equality, and the Organization of Asian Women. In 1986 she moved to
Boston to care for her niece when her sister was killed in an accident.
For the past 12 years she has organized and coordinated the
Somerville-based Community Cooks, a group of neighbors who cook and
provide food to various shelters and food pantries in Somerville and
Cambridge. She is also a founding member of The Art of Compassion, an
art-based socially engaged organization whose goal is to create and
promote art that communicate compassion and deepen mutual understanding
and acceptance.
Vicky has extensive professional experience in the art world,
specializing in the field of ancient Roman art. Her scale models,
watercolors, drawings, and didactic layouts have been exhibited in the
Worcester Art Museum, Mount Holyoke College Art Museum, Smith College
Art Museum, and the German Archaeological Institute in Rome. Her work has
been published in periodicals and books, and used in conferences and
symposia at various institutions including Harvard University, the Getty
Center, and Dumbarton Oaks. Vicky has a BFA from Cornell University and
an MFA from Columbia University.
